Sierra Club v. Dale Bosworth
Challenge to the revised forest plan for the Superior National Forest, which encompasses 3 million acres of pine, fir, spruce, and endless lakes and streams in northeastern Minnesota. It is the only place in the continental United States where wolves were never eradicated, is home to a growing lynx population, and supports fisher, marten, black bear, moose, and possibly pumas and woodland caribou. The revised forest plan fails to incorporate required federal lynx guidelines on lynx connectivity and off-road vehicle trails into the forest plan, allows timber sales harmful to lynx as long as they are done in the name of fire prevention, fails to analyze impacts to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and selects inadequate Management Indicator Species and monitoring requirements to maintain wildlife diversity and viability.
